Dr. Danita Applewhite, PhD, CRC (aka “Professor Apple”) is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Retired Psychology Professor, Author, Army Veteran, Host of “Student2Teacher” radio show, and Founder/CEO of White Apple Institute. Dr. Applewhite is recognized as a leading experts in the field of rehabilitation counseling and education. Since 2001, she has maintained a private practice dedicated to improving school and work performance for adults, including fellow Veterans, with mental/learning and physical disabilities, pain issues, and related emotional and psychosocial challenges. She is most effective with her clientele because of her own recovery from cancer and a near fatal car accident, resulting in her being wheelchair-bound and adapting to chronic pain. This journey has inspired her to apply the principles she has shared with others to change the perception of “disabled to differently-abled” and to recognize that everyone, regardless of the severity of our disabilities, is capable of being a “student and teacher”! As host of “Ask Dr. Applewhite on the Student2Teacher Radio Show”, she provides consultation to educators, employers, students and employees on ways to improve accommodations, retention, and performance. She founded the White Apple Institute, a non-profit organization, to provide resources such as the Student2Teacher™ Radio Talk Show and Crisis Stipends for students unable to afford counseling and unexpected expenses related to succeeding in higher education and the workforce. She presently serves on the Veterans Medical Leadership Council, Arizona Statewide Independent Living Council and supports local and international efforts to encourage workforce development for persons with disability. Her affiliations and memberships include serving with Literacy Volunteers of America, Black Board of Directors Project, NAACP, Disabled American Veterans, American Counseling Association, and Commission on Rehabilitation Counseling, Women’s Army Corp Veterans Association, American Psychology Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Chi Sigma Iota (honor society of professional counselors).
