Colonel Sam Young, USAF (Ret) served over 28 years in the U.S. Air Force, culminating his career in 1994 at Luke Air Force Base, as the 56th Fighter Wing Base (Support Group) Commander. Colonel Young’s career assignments included nearly five years in the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Headquarters, US Air Force, in Washington, D.C.
Upon his retirement, Young joined The Arizona Republic as Director of Services responsible for security, new construction and operational maintenance of the company’s 40 facilities throughout the Valley and State. He recently served as Project Manager in the construction and relocation of 12News studios into The Arizona Republic building.
Active in the community, Young has been involved with the Veterans Medical Leadership Council for eight years, serving as President for two years as well being involved with the VMLC’s prestigious “Heroes One and All Luncheon”. During this time the VMLC raised over $500,000 to support the needs of Maricopa County military veterans.
He is a graduate of San Jose State University in Aeronautics and has an MBA from the University of Alaska. An Arizona resident since 1988, he and his wife Brenda live in Glendale where he continues to support military veterans as a Life member of the Air Force Association, Military Officers Association and National Association for Uniformed Services.
